Kshorkaar Community

The kshorkaar community is also known as the nai or barber community in the local language of India. The word nai comes from napika, which is a Sanskrit word and it means “the one who cleans nails”. As per the origin of the word the kshorkaar people mostly engage themselves in the traditional occupation of being a nai or barber who cuts hair, beard, nails, shaving, etc. some nai continue to follow the inherited art and have established salons and as for the poorer nai, they establish a roadside haircutting stall of their own and offer service at low pay. The kshorkaar or nai community is believed to have a kshatriya as well as shudra descendent which makes them kshatriya as well of the cultivator class. The nai community has different names in various regions, they are known as khawas in Rajasthan, Napit in Haryana, raja in Punjab, Valand in Gujrat, etc. They are spread throughout India in parts like Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, etc.

The kshorkaar community is not only settled in the business of barbering but have taken up employment in different sectors in different state and region they have migrated to, like in Rajasthan they chosen to be involved in government sectors and in cultivation of land, in Madhya Pradesh they found in small amount as traders, in Assam region they have taken carpentry as their occupation, business, etc.

The kshorkaar people are mostly Hindus and religious towards worshipping all Hindu god and goddess, some of the deities that are highly worshipped by them are goddesses Lakshmi, god Ganesh and hanuman. Khorkaars are jovial people and live with harmony and adaptively in the region they have migrated to and celebrate all Indian festivals with great joy.
