LoginAfter the downfall of Gupta Empire, various small independent kingdoms were formed in North India. One of them was at Thaneswar which was ruled by the Vardhana Dynasty. Prabhakara vardhana was the founder of this Dynasty. He was the first king of the Dynasty with his capital at Thaneswar. He had two sons called Rajya Vardhana & Harsha Vardhana and only one daughter, Rajyasree. He was a mighty warrior. And after his death, his son succeeded him. Harsha Vardhana defeated the rulers of Malwa and Kanauj. After some years he had been defeated and killed by King Deva Gupta of Malwa. Sasanka, the king of Gauda murdered Rajya Vardhan. Harsha Vardhan was a great ruler and he did so much for the welfare of the people.
Numerous stupas were built in the name of Lord Buddha. University of Nalanda was endowed with grants and donations. Music also flourished in various categories. Friendly relations were maintained by Harsha Vardhana. As a religion Buddhism received a major boost during the rule of Vardhan Dynasty. Earlier Harsha Vardhana was the follower of Hindu religion but later he started following Buddhism.
On concluding, the Vardhan Dynasty flourished a lot until Harsha Vardhana got defeated in the south of India. This era saw a lot of emergence of Buddhism to a full swing.
