LoginIndia is a land of festivals. One such festival which is filled with vibrant colours and joy is Holi and this festival has a history of bravery and faith of Bhakta Prahlad. Hiranyakashipu was a very arrogant and cruel. His evilness lead to his doom and so his death was fated by the hands of god. He was given a blessing that no god or a human or any devil would ever be able to kill him either at night or at day, indoor or outdoor, in air or on ground and with the help of any weapon, so when the pot of his evilness was filled up to the brim lord Vishnu has decided to end this forever. Prahlad was the son of Hiranyakashipu, the asura king and was a true devotee of Hindu god Vishnu since childhood. Prahlad has a unbreakable faith in god Vishnu who also happens to be Hiranyakashipu's arch enemy. And Prahlad’s faith in lord Vishnu angered him more. When even after trying he couldn't get lord Vishnu out of Prahlad's mind and soul he asked his sister Holika to kill prahlad before his faith in god would spread like a wildfire. Holika, sister of Hiranyakashipu had received a boon that no fire could ever touch her as soon as she had a holy ‘chunari’ with her. Hiranyakashipu asked Holika to sit in an inferno with Prahlad on her lap. As soon as they entered the blazing fire, Prahlad started to chant the name of lord Vishnu, although the flames came for him but couldn’t touch him as by lord Vishnu's blessing that chunari came on Prahlad and even though Holika had the boon but still she was burned to ashes and so he is also known as Bhakta prahlad.
Hiranyakashipu was very angry with Prahlad’s escape and god’s blessing on him, when he asked “you say your god is everywhere, is he here in this pillar too?” prahlad said yes” with a lot of faith in his eyes, then the asura king hit the pillar hard with his mace with a lot of force. Lord Vishnu then appeared from that pillar in the form of Narasimha or lion-man avatar. To outsmart the asura king despite the boon given by lord Vishnu he appeared on such a pillar which was chosen by Hiranyakashipu that was neither indoors or outdoors, the time was twilight, neither morning nor night, and lion man was both man or animal. Lion man tore apart the evil asura king with his bare hands by keeping him on his laps. And prahlad met his deity and worshiped him irrespective of his lion-man appearance. So to celebrate the end of evilness and Spread colour in life Holi is celebrated and before the day of Holi people across India lit bonfire to pay an ode to Bhakta prahlad
