LoginLord Mahavira, also known as Vardhamana, was the twenty- fourth ford-maker of Jainism. As per the beliefs of Jain Tradition, Mahavira was born in early 6 th century BC. At the age of thirty, he left his home in pursuit of spiritual awakening abandoning all worldly possessions. He practiced intense meditation and after that, he is believed to have attained omniscience. He preached for around thirty years. He died at the age of 72 in the 6 th century BC and his remains were cremated. He taught that the observance of the vows of non-violence, non- stealing, Satya, brahmacharya i.e. chastity and non-attachment are necessary to spiritual liberation. He also gave the principle of Syadvada, many-sided reality and Nayavada. Gautam Swami, his chief disciple compiled his teachings. These teachings were then called as the Jain Agamas.
Mahavira is mainly depicted in a standing or sitting meditative posture along with a symbol of lion beneath him. The day he was born is celebrated as Mahavir Jayanti. And the day of his liberation is celebrated as Diwali by Jains. He was born into a royal Kshatriya family of King Siddhartha and Queen Trishala. He grew up as a prince and both of his parents were followers and lay devotees of Parshvanatha. According to Digambara tradition, his parents wanted him to marry Yashoda but he refused to marry. But according to Svemtambara tradition, he was married to Yashoda and had one daughter. He was a very tall man of height around 10.5 feet. He taught that soul exists.
On concluding, Mahaveer Swami always enlightened the path of people with his teachings.
